People spend more when it’s made really easy for them to buy.
Well… DUH!
That’s a no brainer, right? What got my attention is HOW
MUCH MORE. Here’s the jest of what the article said:
People spend 50% more when traveling at vending machines in
airports, bus stations, train stations and even in road side
rest stops when the machine takes credit/debit cards. They’ll
spend up to 82% more at zoos, amusement parks and theaters that
take plastic in their machines and 28% more in offices.

Now,
I know that we all take credit cards in our business, that’s
just common sense.
The
lesson is that this is just 1 example of how making it easy for
our clients can have a huge impact on our sales.
Here’s another example from the same article:
You’ve all probably seen the bags of pre-cut lettuce and salads
that take up large areas in the grocery stores these days… I’ll
bet you’ve probably bought them for your family. Have you
noticed that they now take up more space than even some of the
other produce combined? Here’s why.
Sales of pre-cut, ready to serve bags of salad grew 38% in 2005
to a whopping $2.4 Billion. Compare that to the $1.6 Billion for
uncut produce and you now know why the ready-to-eat section is
growing so fast.
What
really got my attention was the fact that the price of the
pre-cut packages was, on average, about 30% more expensive than
the uncut produce. Imagine what that could mean to your business
if you could charge 30% more for your products than your
competitor, and still out sell them.
I
know it’s got me thinking!
The
real lesson here (see I’m making it easy… you don’t even have to
think about it.) is that the easier you can make it for your
clients, the more of your valuable products and services that
they will buy.
I am
revamping my purchase sequence to make it as few a steps as
possible and adding more ways for them to buy my products.
Moreover, that’s just a start. It’s now on my weekly to-do list
to see what else I can find and do to make my business easy for
my clients to use.
What
are you going to do to make it easy?
